J.Thelander Consulting is headed by Jody K. Thelander, a compensation executive with a track record of successful results and nearly two decades of professional experience. Jody has a keen understanding of business realities through a diversified background in compensation, sales and customer service. Her surveys and resulting reports have become a well-respected and highly desired tool for compensation decision-makers in the private business sector. Jody earned a Bachelor of Science in Consumer Studies at the University of Vermont, Burlington, and a Master’s Degree in Human Resources at Marymount University, Arlington, VA. Her career began in the fashion retail industry with British Vogue, Ralph Lauren Womenswear, Bonwit Teller and Garfinkel’s in London, New York and Washington, DC. Jody also spent ten years with TRW Space and Defense, both in Washington, DC and San Francisco, before starting her own firm. J.Thelander Consulting provides board and compensation consulting to a full range of businesses, from emerging growth companies, including life sciences and technology, to Fortune 500 businesses. Jody also runs the Thelander Private Company Compensation Survey as well as the Thelander-PitchBook Investment Firm Survey. She works closely with venture capital, private equity and law firms, providing compensation strategies for portfolio companies and clients. Jody serves on the Auxiliary Board of the San Francisco Ballet and the Modern Art Council of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She is past chair of the Leadership Committee for the American Diabetes Association.
Contact JodyColin Turek heads client relations and business development. He comes to J.Thelander Consulting with much experience in the private tech and healthcare industries in both San Francisco and New York. Colin provides expertise in data analysis, visualization and statistical interpretation. He received his MBA from the State University of New York, Oswego after earning an undergraduate degree in Social Justice from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has continued his academic studies at Cornell University, where he is currently earning an advanced certificate in Data Analytics. Colin has been named “Top 40 Under 40” by the SF North Bay Business Journal, is deeply involved with the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund, and is active with the New York City Ballet Young Patron Circle and the San Francisco Ballet ENCORE groups.
Contact ColinMorgan specializes in client relations and business development for J.Thelander Consulting clients and survey participants. She has in-depth experience with private companies through her work at PitchBook in Seattle and Healthbox in Chicago. While at PitchBook, Morgan gained expertise in private company deal and financing tracking, as well as contributing to editorial for their daily newsletter and blog posts. She also has keen insights as to how start-ups bring their products to market through her work with the accelerator program at Healthbox. Morgan volunteered at Capitol Lakes, a retirement community in Madison, Wisconsin as well as Habitat for Humanity. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies and Gender and Women’s Studies from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Contact MorganMac specializes in data analysis and consulting. He comes to J. Thelander from a media start-up working in both San Francisco and New York, where he managed product development. Mac has expertise in data analysis, market research, content and project management. He received his Bachelor of Arts with Honors in History from Boston University. He volunteers with community groups in New York City engaged in housing, education and racial justice efforts.
Contact MacMary McBride has spent 30 years in the Financial and Technology Industries in a variety of positions. The culmination of all these learning experiences enabled Mary to become a very effective leader and manager at all stages of business cycles. Mary joined Bloomberg LP in 1987 when they were a very new company with fewer than 90 employees. They currently have over 15,000 employees globally. Mary was a hands-on product manager, along with being a liaison between technology, operations and sales. Some of her accomplishments include managing Sales and Operations, Directing Public Communications and Marketing Events, Implementing Sales Initiatives, Reporting on Industry Trends, Negotiating Contracts, Managing Outside Partnerships to name a few. Her expertise in “start-ups” made her a point person within Bloomberg LP for new Business Strategies and New Ventures. Prior to Bloomberg LP, Mary spent 4 years managing a $250 million US bond portfolio for Mutual of America Investment Division. Mary graduated from the University of Rhode Island Cum Laude with a double degree in Marketing and Computer Science.
Larry Leisure is the Chairman of the Washington, DC based ADVI which is provides advisory services to the life sciences and managed care industries.He has had a distinguished career in healthcare serving in a number of senior consulting and management roles. Organizations where he has held leadership positions have included Accenture where he was the Global Managing Partner for the Health Vertical, Price Waterhouse where he led their Employer and Payer Managed Care Practice, Towers Perrin where he led their Group Benefits and Managed Care practices, Kaiser Foundation Health Plans where he oversaw national sales & account management and UnitedHealth Group where oversaw the Payer Segment for Ingenix Consulting (now Optum Health).
In 2009 he founded AccelusHealth Partners, LLC which merged with HillcoHealth to form ADVI in 2013. He also co founded Healthspottr, a new media company focused on the acceleration of innovation in health care. He continues to serve as an Senior Advisor to Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and sits on the boards of several health care services companies including Accretive Health, Lumiata, and Recovery Ways. He received his AB in Economics from Stanford University and his MBA in Finance from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Co-founder and CEO, Healthspottr. Prior to founding Healthspottr, Carleen was an associate editor with Forbes and, later, a senior writer and west coast bureau chief for Fast Company magazine. While with Forbes, she created the well-known Midas List, an index of leading venture capital dealmakers, now in its thirteenth year of publication. Carleen holds a BA in political science from Barnard College and a master’s degree from Columbia Journalism School, and was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia Business School. She has contributed to Health Affairs. Her work also can be found in the archives of Financial Week, Ode, Business 2.0, Inc., San Francisco, Wired and Outside.
