Thelander PC Digest: July 2023
Europe vs. USA Compensation
Welcome to the Thelander Private Company Digest. For our July newsletter, in the spirit of the Eurotrip returning for summer, we compared compensation for CEOs and Biologists in Europe and the United States. J.Thelander Consulting surveys globally and all data is reported in USD. Let’s take a look.
- Chart 1 shows the 25th percentile, median and 75th percentile in total cash for CEOs. CEOs in the United States are compensated higher across all percentiles.

- Chart 2 shows the 25th percentile, median, 75th percentile, and maximum in total cash for biologists. The compensation is slightly higher in Europe for the 25th percentile ($969) – but lower across the median, 75th percentile and maximum.

- Chart 3 shows the 25th percentile, median, 75th percentile, and maximum in non-founder equity for biologists. The equity ranges from 0.04% to 2.00% in the United States compared to 0.03% to 0.04% in Europe.

Our Findings: Thelander data clearly shows that the United States compensates higher for cash and equity for both positions across almost all percentiles.
