Thelander PC Digest: November 2022
What is the Status of Compensation for Privately Held Companies?
J.Thelander Consulting hosted a Private Company Compensation Panel Webinar where we took a deep dive into compensation trends and shared a preview of the results from our Year-End Merit Increase, Option Pool & Bonus Survey. In case you missed it, you can view the recording below along with some of the key takeaways.

Key findings from the webinar included:
- There is a higher rate of crossover of talent between life science companies and tech companies than previously seen in the past. It’s a competitive talent market and the industry serves as less of a barrier.
- We added new questions to the survey this year – asking:
- Do you have a recession plan in place? (79% of participants answered “No”)
- Are you planning on freezing hiring due to a potential recession? (98% of participants answered “No”)
- Are you planning on laying off staff due to a potential recession?
- In 2022, median total cash by region increased for CEOs in the Mid-West and Pacific Northwest.
- In 2022, total cash was greater for CEOs in the biotech industry than for CEOs in non-biotech industries.
- Data shows that women take less total cash and have higher equity than men in their same respective industries.
